Huge Trees 'The President' | Sequoiadendron giganteum

'The President' is one of the worlds oldest and largest trees, if you take into account biomass (trunk, limbs, branches, leaves, etc), and it certainly is beautiful in a snowstorm.

  • Species: Sequoiadendron giganteum
  • Diameter: 27 feet or 8.2 metres
  • Tall: 247 feet or 75 meters
  • Age: 3200 Years
  • 2 Billion Leaves

A couple of years ago researchers from National Geographic climbed and photographed the tree, their final photo of the entire tree actually a mosaic of 126 separate images. You can find out more about The President in Nat Geo December 2012 issue or watch the video below.

While I'm a little undecided about whether I would let anyone climb the tree, I'm glad it is now protected and we have moved on somewhat from showing off incredible this!
